ABOUT

DAV DEPARTMENTOF INDIANA

In the heart of Indiana, the motivations are as diverse and rich as our members themselves. Many find a sense of community and camaraderie within our local chapters, 26 strong across the state. Others are drawn to the events that bring us together in solidarity and remembrance. There are those who seek the opportunity to give back, offering their time and talents to serve fellow veterans and their families right here in the Hoosier State. And a significant number join our ranks to champion the ongoing battle for the rights and benefits deserved by every veteran.

At DAV Indiana, we’re not just an organization; we’re a band of brothers and sisters, 1 million strong nationwide, united by our shared experiences and a relentless drive to support one another. We understand the needs of veterans because we’ve walked in those boots—we’ve lived those stories. We invite you to stand with us, to strengthen our voice and extend our reach across Indiana and beyond. Join our cause, and together, let’s continue the legacy of service and advocacy that defines us.

DAV Mission 1

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Department of Indiana is a beacon of hope and support for veterans across the state. Established on November 22, 1923, this esteemed branch of the national DAV organization has been unwavering in its commitment to serve those who have sacrificed so much for our nation.

For a century, the DAV Department of Indiana has dedicated itself to empowering veterans of all generations, ensuring they receive the recognition, support, and benefits they rightfully deserve. Our mission is clear: to keep the promises made to our veterans by providing comprehensive assistance through a wide array of services. This includes helping veterans access vital health care and disability benefits, connecting them with meaningful employment opportunities, and advocating for their rights at both the state and federal levels.

At the heart of our efforts is the belief that no veteran should have to navigate the challenges of returning to civilian life alone. The DAV Department of Indiana stands as a pillar of support, offering a lifetime of commitment to every veteran and their family. From the moment of formation in 1923, we have been here to ensure that the sacrifices of our veterans are honored, their voices heard, and their futures secured.

Join us as we continue this noble mission, building on a legacy of service and advocacy that has made a profound difference in the lives of countless veterans across Indiana. Together, we can honor the promise to those who have served and sacrificed for our nation.

DAV's

MISSION STATEMENT

We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

This mission is carried forward by:

      • Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other agencies of government.
      • Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families specifically.
      • Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government.
      • Extending DAV’s mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters.
      • Providing a structure through which disabled veterans can express their compassion for their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.
